Sharks deny Rocks a lift

Edinburgh Rocks missed the chance to move up into third place in the Northern Conference of the Dairylea Dunkers Championship, losing 75-65 last night on the road to Westfield Sharks Sheffield.

The Scots, who suffered a one point home loss to the Yorkshiremen earlier in the season, trailed from the early stages with their hosts hitting seven points without reply to surge ten points ahead just before half-time.

Jim Brandon's side enjoyed a more positive spell after the break, cutting Sheffield's advantage back to just a solitary point with two minutes remaining in the third quarter. However, the defending league champions stepped up a gear to compile a 16-2 spurt which sent them 66-51 in front, Michael New the sole Rocks scorer in a seven minutes spell which ultimately swung the match decisively in Sharks favour.

Newly-named BBL Player of the Month Todd Cauthorn hit a game-high 20 for Sheffield, who have now won 15 in a row.

Joel Burns led the Edinburgh scoring on 18 points with John McCord adding 15.  Both sides will return to Sheffield Arena on Sunday for their respective semi-final ties in the Sainsbury's Classic Cola Cup.
