BBL Sharks earn stripes with first win of year
Westfield Sharks Sheffield got 2000 off to a winning start, extending their lead in the Northern Conference with a 87-83 defeat of second placed Derby Storm which secures the season head-to-head series between the pair.
The hosts won the game thanks to an impressive 32-18 third quarter which erased a 40-47 Storm half-time lead and left them seven points up going into the last period, a sufficient cushion to defend even in the face of a late 2-7 Storm fightback.
Ex-Derby star Nate Reinking notched a season-high 29 points for Sheffield with team-mate Terrell Myers adding 23, giving Sharks a confidence boosting warm up for Sunday's National Cup final with Manchester.
Darrian Evans on 22 and Kip Stone on 20 led Derby who have now lost three successive games.
