Uniball Trophy : Sharks defy Bears with OT roll
Westfield Sharks Sheffield remained perfect in Group D of the uni-ball Trophy with a 89-84 defeat of Brighton Bears.
However the south coast side made the 1998 competition winners fight every inch of the way. Leading 54-61 at the end of the third quarter, the Bears looked to have taken the opportunity for a first win in four tries over the reigning league champions this season.
But Sharks' star Terrell Myers stepped up to the plate to bring his side back into contention and it was his pass to Todd Cauthorn which allowed the American forward to send the game into overtime with a score two seconds from the fourth quarter buzzer.
The two then combined to pull off the victory in the extra period - Myers ending on a game high 31 with Cauthorn hitting 25 - to leave Brighton mired a two-way battle with Chester for the second quarter-final berth.
Jon Gaines led the Bears scoring on 24 with Charles Claxton adding 22.
