Rhondda crush sorry Spelthorne
Rhondda Rebels fully justified their positions as final favourites, winning the Sainsbury's Classic Cola Cup for the first time with a 65-38 rout of Spelthorne Acers at Sheffield Arena.
The Londoners stayed bravely in contention with the much fancied Welsh side in the early exchanges as both sides struggled to make scores. Rhondda, for whom Missy Lender shone brightly, ran in 24-15 leaders at half-time.
But the inexperience of Spelthorne perhaps proved their undoing and they allowed the final to run away from their grasp after play re-commenced, Lender blasting away to a game-high 25 point tally. Her team-mate Jane Thackray added 13, a haul one greater than Acers' Caroline Ayres.
