Towers edged out by Split raid

Haribo London Towers came so close to a Saporta Cup upset in Croatia after the Brits were edged out 82-81 by hosts Split.

Towers raced away with some impressive play in the opening half, leading by nine points at one stage. However the Croats - now joint leaders in group G with four games left - came back, first to close to 39-43 at half-time and then to take a late lead which the Londoners failed to retrieve despite 27 points from Danny Lewis.

Danir Tyrdic for Split matched Lewis' offensive total while Towers' Steve Bucknall added 20 as his team fall to a 1-5 record.

The upset of the night came in Belgium where previously winless Aalst thrashed previously undefeated group leaders Darussafaka Istanbul by 101-80.

Plannja Lulea moved level on points with Addecco Milan in third place in the group as the Swedes gained a 66-60 hoem victory over the Italians.
