Riders finally get result in Cup raid
Renault Leicester Riders became the eighth and final qualifier for the quarter-finals of the Sainsbury's Classic Cola Cup , thanks to a 60-77 result over Plymco Plymouth Raiders in Devon.
With wide expectations of an upset by the NBL side, the Riders shook off early troubles to gain what is their first victory in any competition this season.
The hosts started well leading 20-12 midway through the first half. But Leicester netted 11 unanswered points late in the half to lead by 26-32 at the interval.
In the second half the Raiders twice trimmed the deficit to one before Leicester hit 13 points without reply to open up a decisive 40-53 advantage which was never troubled.
Raiders' American Michael Schantz led all scorers on 21 while Kevin Gilroy had a team-high 19 for Leicester, who now face Manchester in the quarter finals.
