Sharks win tenth straight, close on Giants






Sheffield Sharks closed the gap on the Manchester Giants to four points at the top of the Northern Conference with a 91-102 success at Newcastle Eagles. At the same time, Eagles were ruled out of making the Championship quarter-finals - the best they can achieve now is 15 wins, while third and fourth placed, Edinburgh and Derby already have 16 wins.

Sharks foul shooting was the deciding factor in securing their tenth victory in a row. They hit ten from the line in the last 90 seconds to seal the tie . Previously, the Sharks biggest lead had come in the third period, when they lead the Eagles 36-55. However, Newcastle hit back with 25 of the next 33 points to trim the deficit to just two points at 61-63 to the Sharks with 4.21 of the third quarter to go.The game remained close in the final period, until the late foul shots.

Eagles' Charles Smith and Sharks' Peter Scantlebury were joint leading scorers with 24 points.
