BBL Feisty Eagles close to knocking down Giants
Maybe there is hope for the chasing pack in the Northern Conference after all.
Manchester Giants strengthened their hold on top spot of the table with a hard fought 70-73 victory over the Newcastle Eagles but the on-form Giants were pushed all the way by a feisty perofrmance from their hosts .After leading by as much as 11 points in the first half, the Giants required 7 unanswered points midway through the final quarter to reverse a 61-57 deficit, the hosts' biggest lead of the night, to a 61-64 lead which was never relinquished again.
Earlier the Eagles had fought back well bagging 10 points without reply either side of the half time break to trim the Giants lead to just one at 38-39 before pulling briefly - but vainly - in front.
Eagles Charles Smith led all scorers with 28 points, while Tony Dorsey had 22 for the Giants.
