BBL Newcastle's late run denies Rocks crucial win
Newcastle Eagles upset the in form Edinburgh Rocks to record a 85-82 victory on Tyneside on Saturday night, the Geordies' first win over their closest rivals this season.
Eagles result gave them sixth spot in the Dairylea Dunkers Northern Conference and came mainly thanks to some fine late three point shooting from Andrew Mavis and a closing 8-2 spurt which sealed the win.
Rocks Ted Berry, who scored a game high 25 points, just missed out on forcing the extra period when his full court shot hit the front of the rim before missing.
Eagles were led by Mavis' 18 points, Ian Whyte adding 17. Edinburgh can still assure their pos season berth with a Sunday win over Leicester.
