On-fire Chester win fifth straight

When Chester Jets released Kyle Ivey Jones at the turn of the year, most critics believed that it spell the end of the Jets' play-off chances. How wrong they were.

The Jets extended their winning sequence to five with a narrow 80-83 defeat of Conference rivals Newcastle Eagles on Friday night at the Telewest Arena.

Eagles had a ten point burst around half-time to open up a double-figure lead at ending the third quarter 62-52 in front. The hosts held their advantage until midway through the fourth quarter but as so often this season, they folded in the face of nigh certain victory.

Chester compiled runs of 0-9 and 0-7 in the last five minutes to sneak the win with Terrence Lewis on 24 the game-leading score. Charles Smith notched 20 for Newcastle who have failed to win any of their last eight fixtures.
