Hatters make it six time lucky at Wembley
For all the talk of Spelthorne being ready to cause an upset at Wembley, no-one remembered to tell Sheffield Hatters. The Yorkshire outfit secured their sixth consecutive NBL Women's Championship in succession, overcoming the Londoners by a relatively comfortable 64-52 margin.
Sparked by 18 points and nine rebounds from eventual MVP Sharon Castanada, Betty Codona's team went to work early on in pursuit of a complementary prize for their league title.
Ahead 38-28 by half-time, a scoreless six minutes for Spelthorne after the break left them chasing the game and Hatters maintained a double-digit cushion through to the finish to run out victors, despite a brief revival with five minutes left.
However it was 19 points for Acers' Ana Ridruejo which was the game-high while EBBA Player of the Year Claire Wiseman added seven.
