Windless leads Lions to booster

Milton Keynes Lions grabbed their second victory in this season's Dairylea Dunkers Championship with an 84-77 upset of Thames Valley Tigers.

The televised scouting which Lions coach Tom Hancock undertook the previous evening paid off from the early stages as his team took an early 10-6 lead, including six successive points from former league MVP Eric Burks.

A 9-0 Tigers run in the second period kept the game neck and neck with the hosts ahead 47-43 at half time but two three-pointers from Tony Windless and a long-ranger from Burks put Lions 63-59 ahead for good in the third period.

Windless then scored five straight points late in the contest to catapult the Lions into a 74-68 lead, shortly before a Casey Arena three-pointer levelled matters at 75-75.

But Tigers' pair Jason Siemon and Martin Gottfried then fouled out, and Burks, capping his 20 point show, Modie Cox, and the game leading 27th point from  Windless saw Lions home from the foul line.

Jason Siemon had 18 for Tigers who remain in second place in the Southern Conference.
