Lions snatch delayed game from Leopards mouths

Milton Keynes Lions climbed to third spot in the Southern Conference with a nailbiting 90-87 victory over the adidas London Leopards on Wednesday night.

An accident on the M25 led to a delay in the start of tonight's Milton Keynes Lions v London Leopards clash, after the Essex side were unable to reach the venue until after the original tip-off time of 7.30.

When the contest eventually got under way 125 minutes late, the Lions trailed 12-21 at the end of the first quarter and their chances of a head to head securing win looked bleak when stand-in coach Vince Macauley Razaq was thrown out in the second quarter for leaving his box.

But after finding themselves 45-62 in arrears midway through the third period, the hosts rebounded strongly with former Leopards star Eric Burks returning to haunt his former club. He nailed a three pointer with just 3 seconds remaining  to take his tally to 22 points and give his side the decisive lead, leaving Leopards to rue 9 missed free throws in the final quarter.

Lions, who could go second with victory on Saturday were led by Tony Windless' game high 27 points while Modie Cox added 23. For Leopards, Rashod Johnson hit 25 and Jason Kimbrough 24.
