BBL Burks blast takes Lions past Bullets
In an eventful game at Bletchley Leisure Centre, it was the hometown Milton Keynes Lions, who defeated their Southern Conference rivals, the Pertemps Bullets Birmingham, 87-85 with Eric Burks bagging a game-best 32 points.
The game was all action in the first half and seven minutes into the first period Bullets' Lee Walker and Lions' Modie Cox both left the game after a clash of heads, both requiring a trip to hospital for stitches. Four minutes into the second quarter, the visitors were dealt another blow as Shawn Jamison was ejected after a double technical handed out for dissent.
This came after Bullets had led in the opening quarter, only to be pegged back in the second. With the score at 72-67 to the Lions at the end of the third quarter, Milton Keynes opened up with the first five points of the fourth. Bullets fought back to within one point at 77-76 and even levelled it at 82-82, but
could not steal ahead and the home side ran out winners to go third in the conference.Nigel Lloyd added 20 for the Bullets.
