BBL Giants D tops Tigers
Manchester Giants stretched their lead at the top of the Dairylea Dunkers Championship Northern Conference to six points with a 91-74 victory over Thames Valley Tigers.
And as so often of late, Giants defensive strength gave them the platform to win the game as they kept the Tigers to 30 second half points and allowed only two players to score double figure points.
The long-time rivals were tied 44-44 at half-time and the hosts had built only a five point lead entering the final quarter. But Roy Hairston, who led the Giants with 22 points, netted four of a decisive ten unanswered points in the fourth quarter which put Giants 79-64 ahead, a position which the visitors found too tough to overhaul.
Casey Arena hit a game-high 23 for the Tigers who dropped their eleventh loss in the Championship, one more than fourth-placed Milton Keynes.
