BBL Giants streak up to great eight
Four times already this season had Manchester Giants held sway in one on ones with Northern Conference rivals Newcastle Eagles. That dominance continued on Thursday night when Nick Nurse's side defeated the Tyneside strugglers 108-89 at MEN Arena.
The victory extends Giants winning streak to eight and leaves Eagles without a win in six attempts, a difference as much in depth on the bench as in the points at the opposite ends of the table.
Up 51-39 at half-time, the hosts, led by 29 points by Tony Dorsey plus 25 from Phil Handy, finally broke some dogged Eagles resistance with an 11-1 scoring burst to start the final quarter 93-71 ahead and despite the same kind of tough play which Newcastle showed in their two point loss to Manchester of last week, they could find no way back into the contest..
As in the last meeting, Charles Smith posted his team-high tally of 23 points but with the leaders making 57% of their field goal attempts, they again showed they are hard to stop.
