Cold Rocks leave Giants on hot streak

A disastrous start to the game by Edinburgh Rocks last night cost them the
chance of upsetting Northern Conference rivals Manchester Giants as the
Scots fell 83-73 at MEN Arena. Jim Brandon's side could not buy a basket in
the early stages, notching only six points in the first ten minutes as
their shooting consistently failed to find its mark.

That initial setback proved impossible to retrieve even when Edinburgh won
each of the remaining three quarters with Ted Berry leading a brave
fightback on the way to a game-high 22 points.

Trailing 42-26 at half-time, the visitors ran up seven points without reply in the third quarter to edge closer as Nick Nurses rested his starters and they further unnerved the Giants with a 8-2 final period spurt which cut the gap to just eight points. But the Rocks could reduce the deficit only by a single extra point before the finish.

Roy Hairston hit 21 to lead Manchester with Tony Holley adding 19 points and a mammoth 15 rebounds.
