BBL Towers claw past Tigers in OT
After going into double overtime in their last encounter, it eventually took just one extra five minute period to separate Southern Conference rivals London Towers and Thames Valley Tigers on Saturday night, winning 97-91 at Crystal Palace.
It was the hosts who dominated through most the contest, swiftly wiping out the Tigers initial lead with Donnie Johnson the instigator of a ruthless spurt which left then 25-15 in front.
That lead had been cut to 46-39 by half-time as Greg Meldrum rolled towards his team-high 27 points but still Paul James' side hung on, finally levelling the game at 79-79 at the close of the fourth quarter when Jason Siemon rebounded a stray Meldrum foul shot.
The hosts hit the first six points of the additional period and although Tigers came back to close within three points, they could not overhaul the Londoners who extend their lead on top of the standings.
Johnson ended on the game-high of 29 points with team-mate Danny Lewis adding 27.
