Pumas fall prey to Towers power
As expected London Towers advanced to the quarter finals of the Sainsbury's Classic Cola Cup by defeating NBL side Sutton Pumas at Crystal Palace.
But the underdogs fought admirably against the reigning BBL Championship winners before succumbing 76-68.
Sutton led early on, at 10-12, after seven minutes of the game, but Towers came back and led by as many as 16 points early in the second half, before Sutton reduced the deficit once more, with a 0-10 tear, closing to 50-52 with five minutes left.
But Donnie Johnson netted eight of the last eleven points to give the Towers the win. He bagged a game-high 23 points, Danny Lewis added 21 while ex-Palace star Andy Powlesland hit 19 for the brave Pumas.
