Giants edge closer to North summit with OT win

London Towers saw their three-game winning streak come to an end at Crystal Palace against visiting Manchester, with the Giants taking a 92-97 victory in overtime, their sixth straight victory in Championship play.

The two sides, who were meeting for the first time this season, proved closely matched and gave a glimpse of one of the potential play-off matches to come in the early summer.

Towers fought hard to force an extra period, scoring three-pointers through Danny Lewis and Barry Bowman in the final 30 seconds of the fourth quarter to level the contest at 86-86.

But Tony Dorsey and Phil Handy shared nine of the Giants next points in overtime and the visitor's lead which ensued proved enough, Dorsey ending on a game-high 24 points, a tally which was matched by Lewis.

Manchester, bouncing positively back from the Sunday Cup defeat at the hands of Sheffield, moved to within two points of the Sharks at the top of the Northern Conference and will go top, at least temporarily, with a victory at home to Edinburgh on Saturday.

Roy Hairston added 23 for Manchester while Steve Bucknall had 20 for Towers.
