Towers take first blood in capital series
Haribo London Towers emerged as winners of the first capital derby this season afte a 92-82 win over adidas London Leopards at Crystal Palace.
Things were fairly tight through the first three quarters and though the Towers had the lions share of the leads, they could never shake off their cross-town rivals.
Tied 39-39 at half-time, little separated the teams throughout the second half and it wasn’t until the dying seconds of the third quarter that Towers got control, their last three points of that period was the start of a 13-5 tear that took their lead from a one point advantage to 75-66. The home side then opening up their biggest lead of the night in the closing seconds as Leopards tried in vain to mount a comeback.
Towers' Danny Lewis hit a game-high 32 points, with Steve Bucknall adding 20. Leopards' leading scorers were Larry Johnson, with 29, and Kenya Capers, with 24.
The result leaves Leopards rooted to the bottom of the Southern Conference as the only remaining winless side.
