Uniball Trophy : Rocks finish on a low
Edinburgh Rocks rounded off a miserable uni-ball Trophy campaign with a second loss in five days to London Towers, falling 78-71 last night at Crystal Palace.
The Scots, who finish in third place in their qualifying pool, held an early 13-6 lead but the Londoners, who themselves were pushed to the brink of an exit from European competition on Tuesday night, rallied to forge ahead with consecutive three pointers late in the first quarter.
12 further points without reply before the half time break ensured the Towers a comfortable 36-23 cushion at the break and they increased their advantage to as much as 29 points at the close of the third quarter as both teams utilised their reserve personnel.
With victory all but secured, the hosts relaxed enough for Edinburgh to close with 31-9 streak but at no point did Jim Brandon's side look like upsetting the odds, despite Ted Berry and Joel Burns each contributing a game best 15 points. The Scots now have a two week break from competition caused by the forthcoming England internationals.
Steve Bucknall and Donnie Johnson hit 13 apiece for the Towers with new signing Barry Bowman hitting 10.
