BBL Towers find late spark to break up Rocks
London Towers gained a second Dairylea Dunkers Championship victory in two days at Crystal Palace last night as the hometown side won 68-62 over Edinburgh Rocks to gain a fourth win in five games this season over their guests.
London, for whom American star Danny Lewis was instrumental in notching a game-high 23 points, broke a tie with the final six points of the contest to wrap up the game. It was tough luck on the Rocks who had earlier scored 13 consecutive points in the second quarter to move 19-27 ahead as their zone defence frustrated Towers.
But despite leading narrowly at half-time, Edinburgh's inaccuracy at three-point range cost them dear after the re-start. Their first score outside the arc came from Ted Berry during a late 0-7 run which brought his side back to trail just 58-57 but after levelling matters, the hosts surged definitively clear.
Berry on 14 points matched the team-best tally of team-mate Michael New, who also added 11 rebounds. However the Rocks can take heart from one of the most impressive defensive displays of the campaign, principally a virtuoso performance by Rocks centre Brendan Graves who pulled down 14 rebounds to go with his 10 points.
