Late Leopards run dents Lions pride
adidas London Leopards gained some revenge for their Sainsbury's Classic Cola National Cup defeat to Milton Keynes Lions last weekend but their 95-85 win came only after a frantic finale at Brentwoods.
After two very close first quarters, Leopards hit a 9-0 run to go 53-44 ahead early in the third. Milton Keynes soon responded with a 0-6 run to close Leopards' lead to 57-56 after 5:00 of the third, with the remainder of the period neck and neck. Lions then produced a 6-0 run to forge 66-68 in front after 2:00 in the fourth - but that was their last lead.
Leopards led 75-73 with 3:17 left and a 9-2 surge put them 84-75 ahead with 1:30 remaining. Three pointers from former Leopard Eric Burks and Tony Windless saw the Lions close to 84-80 with 1:13 to go, but Leopards followed that with a closing 11-5 run, including nine from the foul line.
Leopards' Brandon Brantley added 16 rebounds to his 17 points, while Lions' Kelvin Robinson notched 16 points and 11 rebounds.
