Brantley inspires Bears destruction

What was that people were saying that Brighton might condemn Leopards to a sorry basement spot ? Not quite. The Essex men, under assistant coach Rohan Thompson, dished out a thrashing to the Bears at Brentwood on their return from a ten day break and kept themselves within spitting distance of the Southern Conference play-off spots.

Despite being without suspended coach Bob Donewald, the hosts demolished Brighton 88-56, taking full advantage of the absences of injured duo Lormont Sharp and Richard Scantlebury to run riot.

Holding their visitors to just five first quarter points, Leopards ran off 20 unanswered points within the first and second periods, racing into a 39-17 half-time lead which was never in the remotest danger.

Only in the final stages did the Bears avoid a complete humiliation, by racking off 34 points in the fourth quarter, a tally still two less than the victors for whom
Brandon Brantley was in dominant form with 20 points and 17 rebounds.

Jon Gaines and Charles Claxton hit 13 apiece to lead Brighton.
