Mims gets Riders off mark against former charges

Renault Leicester Riders secured the first Championship points of the season with brand new coach Billy Mims enjoying a 107-101 victory over old club, adidas London Leopards, at Granby Halls.

In a thrilling encounter which lived up it its hyped-up billing, it was Purnell Perry who rose to the occasion as he grabbed a game-high 37 points, as the hosts led for most of the contest. A second quarter burst left Mims new charges eight points ahead at half-time as the visitors suffered the loss of guard Jason Kimbrough to what appeared a painful injury.

In his absence the capital side, coached by ex-Riders boss Bob Donewald, could not quite rein back the deficit despite Robert Youngblood's 26 points.

However perhaps the performance of the game came from veteran Canadian Kevin St. Kitts who bagged 23 points, his best total since his return to Britain last year.
