Uniball Trophy : Rocks go deep to overcome Riders
Edinburgh Rocks made it three wins of out of three this season over struggling Leicester Riders last night, a 65-71 result at Granby Halls capping a recent two game skid by the Scots.
The Rocks held the advantage for most of the contest and pulled ahead for good with a 10-0 start to the second quarter for a 18-30 lead. Leicester, yet to defeat another BBL side this campaign, managed to pull their guests back to within seven points by half time as visiting coach Jim Brandon took the opportunity to give his starting line up frequent rest periods, utilising every member of his roster by early in the third quarter.
But Edinburgh still were able to do enough to frustrate their opponents whose late fourth quarter rally proved insufficient to deny the Scots the spoils.
"It was a good performance from most of our guys while I thought Joel Burns had another exceptional game," said Brandon afterward. "In the final quarter, we lost a little bit of concentration by not executing but we got what we wanted from the game."
John McCord of Edinburgh led all scorers on 23 with Ted Berry adding 19, while Rob Wilson notched 17 to lead the Riders.
