Korac Cup: Leopards hammered on Euro debut
Greater London Leopards dreams of Korac Cup success look to have been crushed at the first hurdle after the Docklands side were thrashed 111-75 by IRB Reykjanesbaer in Reykjavik.
Without two of their summer signings, the Londoners came up short handed against a team which included eight Icelandic internationals and, under a slew of three point attacks, the visitors trailed 53-37 at half-time.
Despite 20 points from Peter Deppisch and 16 from captain Robert Youngblood, the sole British representatives in the competition could not retrieve the deficit, leaving their chances of reaching the pool stages seemingly remote.
Parnell Perry led all scorers on 26 points and Leopards misery was completed when American debutant Kenya Capers was ejected near the finish for throwing an elbow.
In the other two matches in Leopards' section of the draw, Lugano beat Seixal of Portugal 83-71 in Switzerland while Aaneckosken Huima of Finland overcame German outfit Ratiopharm Ulm 100-87 at home.
The second legs take place next Wednesday with Leopards hosting the Icelanders at London Arena.
