Marian to play-offs as Dungannon fall to last

Killester   81(31)  86(36) Hibernian UCD Marian
Simon Behan 25     Pat Glover 24
Calvin Morris 21     Mike Trimmer 20
Damon Shoultz 15     Huey Futch 16

Killester had already qualified for the playoffs and used this game to run the bench and also to start a number of the U19’s. Their visitors took full advantage to wrap up the eighth and final remaining post season place, fired up by Pat Glover who, once again, was superb. The real hero was U19’s Simon Behan who heads off to the US in September. He hit 25 points in just 18 minutes including seven 3-pointers.

Dungannon   66(33)  74(36) Tolka Rovers
Brad Wedel 19      Randal Mounts 22
Chris Pegan 18     Lennie McMillan 12
Matt Collins 18      Paddy Boylan 11

In this game the home side, Dungannon were fighting to avoid the wooden spoon, by finishing bottom of the Superleague. Tolka Rovers, on the other hand, needed to win this game and win in Sligo the following day and hope other results went their way to book a place in the playoffs.
Randall Mounts sank three quick baskets from assists from Paddy Boylan and Greg Haffner to put the Dublin side up within the first minute.
Gary Connolly dropped in a long two for the mid-Ulster men’s first score with 1:25 gone on the clock. Both teams missed easy layups and Dungannon asked for a time out with the score at 10-4 in favour of Tolka on the six minute mark. There was never more than four points difference from here to the mid way buzzer. With the wiley Lennie McMillan involved in everything the capital men did, Jonathon McIntyre was pulling the strings for the Tyrone men. McIntyre then dislocated his thumb and had to leave the court midway through the second quarter.

The third quarter belonged to the Rovers and at one stage they led by 15 points. Three 3-pointers in a row by Matt Collins steadied Dungannon but they were still eight points adrift at the end of the third quarter. They didn’t manage to close the gap in the final quarter and so Tolka came out with a convincing win which left them a credible ninth in the standings.

Fouled Out:: Trevor Moore (3/4)

Vincents were out of the blocks very fast in the first quarter. They went 19-4 in the lead before Limerick could take a breath. Limerick got their form back but there was always at least 10 points in the difference. Limerick were without their American, Kareem Lewis, because of a hand injury. They also lost their point guard, Scott Ross in the third quarter.

Sligo Dairies   84(47)  69(33) Tolka Rovers
Chris Doyal 24      Greg Haffner 19
Andie Meyer 18     Lennie McMillan 17
Malachy Daly 14     Randall Mounts 12
       Michael Quill 12

This was a good game with Sligo trying to pull themselves off the bottom of the league table. They did it in style, taking the lead straight away and holding it throughout the game. Both teams were in foul trouble at the end of both half’s. Sligo did well on their free throws but Tolka were off the mark.
Towards the end of the fourth quarter Randall Mounts was on four fouls, Greg Haffner and Lennie McMillan were both on three. Paddy Boylan had a good run in the second half scoring 2 three pointers. However it wasn’t enough to drag back the lead and Sligo came out with a good win.

The game got off to a good start with Crusader fighting hard. Meteors took the lead and Crusaders were close at their heels. In the second quarter Meteors took it away and never looked back.

Killester    57(28)  74(46) Avonmore Snowcream Wildcats
Sinead Vaughan 24     Catriona White 23
June Blount 19     Jillian Hayes 21
Ann Hanley 6      Christine Kiely 9
Killester having a very good first quarter in which they took the lead. The second quarter was their downfall as Wildcats put on a great show. Killester were missing their center Jillian Ennis who was injured in training during the week. Without her Jillian Hayes was free to control the game. The second half saw Killester fighting back. They won the second half by one point but Wildcats had already won the game in the second quarter but will settle for secomd place in the league on the same points as victorious Tolka..
