Euro League Final 2000
Slovaks retain women's crown in 2OT
SCP Ruzomberok retained their women's Euro League crown in dramatic fashion on Thursday night in front of a vocal 4,000 home crowd in Slovakia. And it proved a disappointment of Britain's Andrea Congreaves, whose Bourges side took the champions to double overtime before falling 67-64.
The duo could scarcely have been more closely matched during a defensive battle, the hosts leading 31-27 at half-time before the French side levelled the tie at 52-52 at the close of regulation play.
Both teams added seven points in the next extra period but Bourges, champions in 1997 and 1998, were finally thwarted by two free throws from Natalia Svisceva with 35 seconds left, the Slovak notching a game-high 27 points.
Congreaves, who is scheduled to return to the WNBA with Orlando Miracle this summer, managed just five points.
