Towers too good for lethargic Rocks

Edinburgh Rocks coach Jim Brandon was open about his basketball team's shortcomings after the Scots crashed to a 79-64 defeat to London Towers yesterday at Meadowbank when victory would have stamped their ticket into the play-offs. The Rocks were handed a lesson by their more experienced visitors and Brandon accused his players of lacking purpose on the court.

"We just didn’t have energy even when we were up in the first quarter," was his analysis. "We never tested them or put them under pressure even though they didn't play a great game either."

Towers came into the game on a high after lifting the uni-ball Trophy the previous evening and MVP Danny Lewis maintained his form against the Scots by notching a game-best 21 points.

The Rocks only 34-31 trailed at half-time but allowed the match to slip away in the third quarter when the Londoners embarked on a 8-0 burst which left them decisively in control. Edinburgh's hopes of a fightback were hindered by an ankle injury to John McCord but the American still toped his side's scoring with 16.
