Brandon praises Rocks solid showing against Jets

Edinburgh Rocks coach Jim Brandon has offered the opinion that his basketball team have hit peak form just at the right stage of the campaign. And the case is highly convincing with the Scots delivering back to back victories at the weekend which have elevated them into a share of third place in the Northern Conference, just two wins shy of a definitive berth in the play-offs.

A 83-76 defeat of chief pursuers Chester Jets at Meadowbank underlined that the Rocks retain the potential to make a run at Wembley glory in May and although Brandon is not counting his chickens just yet but he has every right to feel optimistic.

"I think chemistry-wise, this is the best we've been all season. We have the fourth best record in the whole country and if we were in the Southern Conference, perhaps we'd be making a run for first place. We're going to take it one game at a time but our aim is to overtake Derby for that third spot in the North."

Against the Jets, Edinburgh overcame some early visiting resistance to go in front with a 7-0 run in the second period thanks to some terrific accuracy outside the arc from Ted Berry.

Even when Chester reined in a 14 points home advantage during the third quarter with a final quarter burst which cut the lead to just 64-61, the hosts embarked on a 8-1 spurt to secure the match, McCord ending on a team-best 21 points.

Pero Cameron led Chester, also with 21, but his team's seventh straight loss might be the final nail in the coffin of their post-season ambitions.
