Amaechi, Wiseman honoured by EBBA

The English Basketball Association announced the English Basketball
Players of the Year for 1999/2000, and unsurprisingly named John Amaechi of the Orlando Magic is the Men's award winner, the second time in his career the Mancunian has won the prize, having previously done so in 1996.

Claire Wiseman of Spelthorne Acers wins the Women's award for the first time, the England international enjoying an outstanding season as the Londoners achieved their best ever campaign in the NBL.

Amaechi, 29, has had an outstanding year in his return to the NBA .  He
was elected into the NBA Hall of Fame for scoring the first basket in the NBA
in the new millennium and during the season averaged over 10 points per game
in the toughest league in the world - a superb achievement.  He currently has
28 England caps and would undoubtedly have gained more but for his NBA
commitments this season.

Wiseman, 23, has been one of the leading players in the Women’s game
in recent seasons.  This season she led her club to the Final of the National
Cup and runners-up spot in the National League.  She has won 11 England caps,  having made her debut in 1998 against Scotland, and has contributed
enormously to the England programme this season.

Nick George (Manchester) and Katie Crowley (Sheffield) were named as the
Junior Players of the year.

George, 17 years old, plays his club basketball with City of Manchester
and has come on in leaps and bounds this season.  Crowley, 17, is
another fine basketball prospect.  She is a regular with Sheffield Hatters in
the Women's Senior NBL and captain of the England Junior Women’s team.

Jeffrey Danchie (Islington) and Rachel McGregor (Nottingham) were named as
the Cadet Players of the year.

16 year old Danchie is a member of the highly successful Islington team whilst McGregor, 15, has enjoyed a good season at Nottingham, helping her club to the end of season Final Four and representing the England Cadet Women’s team in the Dobbing Cup.
