BBL Sharks come back from dead to keep winning streak alive
Westfield Sharks Sheffield unbeaten run is now 18 games, but at the end of the third quarter of their visit to Chester, coach Chris Finch must have surely believed that the magnificent streak was at its end.
Ejected on a double technical prior to the end of that period, Finch was outside the court and missed his team pulled off a remarkable turnaround, reversing a 19 point deficit to run out 89-93 winners at the Northgate Arena.
Jets - without injured guard Kyle Ivey-Jones - led for most of the Northern Conference contest and had converted a one-point lead after 10 minutes into a 50-42 half-time advantage.
The hosts, who entered the game having won 4 of their last 5, ended their next spell 80-61 ahead and looked certain to finally bring Sheffield's long winning run to its end. But the Sharks rallied, their tough defence shutting the hitherto prolific James Hamilton down.
It led to 25 of the last 30 points going in Sheffield's favour to snatch a
seemingly unlikely victory, Nate Reinking sparkling with a series of vital steals which he converted to scores which brought him to a team leading total of 20 points. His tally was beaten by three Jets players - Hamilton hit 24, Greg Francis 23 and Terrence Lewis Lewis with 22, but coach Robbie Peers will rue missed chance to move up into the play-off places for the first time this season.
