Jets top Giants but need favour from Newcastle






How Chester must now ben regreting any of the losses they suffered in their recent seven game streak of reverses. The Jets have finished their regular season with a four game winning flourish, the icing a 99-78 home victory over Manchester Giants on Sunday. That result leaves Robbie Peers' side needing a fabour from Newcastle Eagles next Saturday who would need to beat Derby to send the Jets into the play-offs.

Despite the Giants beginning the game the better with a 2-9 run, it was the Jets who led after the first period and they added to that in the second quarter to lead by ten points at the half. A 14-6 run in the third period, including five of six free
throws, following a fourth foul and two technicals from Phil Handy, saw the Jets ahead 72-55. 

Giants reduced the deficit before Head Coach Nick Nurse was ejected for two technical fouls in the fourth quarter. Roy Hairston took the total number of technicals up to five when he fouled out with 2.45 remaining.

Chester's backcourt combined for 64 points, Terrence Lewis with 34 and Greg Francis with 30. Handy and Tony Dorsey notched 17 each for Giants.
