Chester shock Storm for second win
Veteran centre Dave Gardner produced a vintage performance as Chester Jets put a spanner in Derby Storm's Northern Conference title hopes with a 80-78 win at the Northgate Arena despite 31 points from Kip Stone.
Nothing separated the two sides in the first half, but a three from Greg Francis put Chester 57-52 up in the third - a three-point play from Gardner extending the lead shortly after as the Jets built a 75-66 lead with 6:52 to go in the fourth.
Storm then launched a 16-4 run to close the gap to just two - 79-77 - with 1:39 to go. A Gardner free-throw put Jets 80-77 up with 57 seconds remaining, Kip Stone replied to make it 80-78 with 28 seconds left, but Francis and Cypheus Bunton each missed two from the line in the nerve-wracking scoreless final seconds to give the Jets only their second Championship win of the campaign.
Jets' Carlos Brown has suffered a suspected broken hand - but the initial diagnosis was not too serious.
