Bears suffer losing debut
Newcastle Eagles proved themselves able party-poopers in Brighton, spoiling the Bears first match at their new Brighton Centre home by taking a 72-84 victory back up home.
The hosts were down by only a single point after a quarter but trailed 35-39 at half time.
With Ralph Blalock in fine form and heading for a game best 22 points, Eagles pulled away for a ten point lead in third quarter and held off stern Bears resistance for an opening night win.
Andrew Mavis added 20 for Newcastle while Bears were topped by newcomer Lormont Sharp whose 18 points could not prevent a loss which is their ninth straight in the league.
