BBL Giants release Carter, beat Bullets
Manchester Giants have released England international guard Ray Carter after just four months with the club with the 27 year old moving to German Bundesliga side, SSV Ratiopharm Ulm.
But Carter's absence did not stop Giants from taking their sixth straight victory, a 85-92 result over Pertemps Bullets Birmingham, which raises Nick Nurse's team into second place in the Northern Conference standings.
Giants opened up a 13 point lead in the third quarter after entering the half-time break ahead 42-54. However their hosts Bullets trimmed the gap to just 78-80 with 1.30 left before a Phil Handy three and nine free throws saw Manchester home with Travis Conlan leading their offense on 21 points, two more than Tony Dorsey. Shawn Jamison notched a game-high 28 for Bullets who remain in the lead in the South.
Carter's request to be released is not a surprise, having been relegated to a back-up role behind Handy and Conlan. In his nine Championship games for the Giants he has averaged 7.33 points and 2.11 rebounds per game after moving to Britain following spells in Iceland and Austria last season.
