Towers go down as Leopards go out
London Leopards may have gained their first ever victory in Europe but their 80-78 home victory over Iceland side IRB Reykjanesbaer was not enough to prevent Billy Mims' side exiting the Korac Cup at the preliminary round stage, losing the tie 189-155 on aggregate.
Robert Youngblood put on a captain's showing with 28 for Leopards who led 47-39 at half-time. Kenya Capers chipped in with 20 and Peter Deppisch netted 18 points while Parnell Perry had 25 for the Icelanders.
London Towers started off on the trail of Saporta Cup glory in positive style at Crystal Palace, with Danny Lewis bagging 33 points, but even a good showing did not stop the capital outfit losing 84-88 to Croatia Split in the opening match of their qualifying pool.
Towers trailed by just one point at half-time but could not overcome the former European champions. Steve Bucknall added 24 for Towers while the Croats were led by 27 from Nicola Vujvic.
